There was big praise for the new Falmouth Co-op at an official opening event.

The Co-op on Cliff Road was busy this morning (15th) as Mayor Steve Eva cut the ribbon at the store with Mayoress Vicky Eva, alongside store manager Glynn Wilkinson, and Member Pioneer Lesley Perkins.

"It is a great pleasure to open the new Co-op store in The Liner building," the Mayor said.

He continued: "For years the nearest shop to the beach (Gyllyngvase Beach) was on Albany Road or the town itself. For people who can come off the beach and pick up fresh produce to eat and drink at affordable prices, it can only be a good thing for Falmouth residents and visitors.

"The store is very well set out, a wide selection of items for sale, and the staff seem very pleasant. Overall, I am very impressed with the store."

Lesley Perkins is the Member Pioneer for Falmouth, she creates local action plans and works closely with the Community Fund recipients.

Lesley added: "I think it looks brilliant and in keeping with this area. I think it'll be very well received, local people have been telling me how much they're looking forward to the opening. Everyone's very excited."

Co-op's new store runs on 100% renewable electricity. It'll be open 7am-11pm daily and has a Fairtrade coffee dispenser - known as Everground; a free ATM; hot food; bakery and ice creams, alongside a focus on fresh, healthy products; meal ideas; everyday essentials; food-to-go; chilled beers and award-winning wines; ready meals and pizzas and, free-from; vegan and plant-based products – including Co-op's exclusive vegan range, GRO.

A unit is also available to enable the community to recycle 'soft plastics' - including crisp packets, bread bags, lids from ready meals and yoghurt pots, biscuit wrappers and, pet food pouches. Racks are outside the store for shoppers who cycle and, compostable carrier bags are also available for those who forget their reusable bags.
