In emails circulating from Falmouth University, students have been urged to take precautionary measures after reports Falmouth and Penryn are being targeted as part of 'National Rape Day'.

An international TikTok trend has been shared ahead of April 24th called 'National Rape Day' which calls for men to carry out sexual acts against women without their consent.

Reports have come to light this afternoon of a Whatsapp group in Cornwall threatening to sexually assault women on this day.

Nub News has been shown an email distributed to students, which reads:

"It has been brought to my attention this morning that there are some rather cruel and unwelcome threats flying around social media regarding harming the welfare of our students.

"I wanted to reassure you all that the police have been informed and are investigating this, but in the meantime, I feel it would be sensible to take some precautionary measures just to be on the safe side.

"So until this is resolved to a satisfactory conclusion, please stay in groups at all times, don't stay late on campus and be assured we have cameras everywhere on campus so any unwelcome visitors will be noticed as asked to leave the premises.

"The general public cannot access the building without a swipe card, so please do not let anyone into the building out of kindness, they need to use their card."
