The new Co-op store will open right next to Gyllyngvase Beach in Falmouth this week.

Nub News reported last year that the Co-op would be taking over the retail unit below The Liner following a £550,000 investment.

Co-op's new store will run on 100% renewable electricity. It'll be open 7am-11pm daily and will include its Fairtrade coffee dispenser - known as Everground; a free ATM; hot food; bakery and ice creams, alongside a focus on fresh, healthy products; meal ideas; everyday essentials; food-to-go; chilled beers and award-winning wines; ready meals and pizzas and, free-from; vegan and plant-based products – including Co-op's exclusive vegan range, GRO.

A funding boost is provided locally through Co-op's Membership programme. Membership of Co-op unlocks additional value through in-store offers and sees Members rewarded with 2p in every pound they spend on Co-op branded products which are added to their own personal Membership account balance. In addition, Co-op also donates the same amount to local causes and community organisations.

A unit is also available to enable the community to recycle 'soft plastics' - including: crisp packets, bread bags, lids from ready meals and yoghurt pots, biscuit wrappers and, pet food pouches. Racks are outside the store for shoppers who cycle and, compostable carrier bags are also available for those who forget their reusable bags.

Students in Falmouth who are TOTUM cardholders – the new name for NUS extra – also receive a 10% discount at the Co-op.

It will be opening on Friday 15th July at 7am, an official unveiling will then take place at 10am with Falmouth Mayor Steve Eva cutting the ribbon.

Co-op store manager Glynn Wilkinson told Nub News: "It is just going to be one of those really lovely stores that serves the community. We are all really excited.

"I have been involved in opening stores before. This isn't my first one so I know what to expect. I have been part of openings up North, but this is my first in Cornwall. I am up for the challenge and really looking forward to it.

"I am just delighted we are opening. It has been a long time coming. The team is looking forward to welcoming customers into our new store."

Co-op has more than 4m active Members, more information about the benefits of Co-op Membership is available by clicking here.
