Yesterday (5th June) we shared that a local councillor would hold talks with South West Water after the closure of shellfish sites.
The reason behind the closure of the sites between the 12th and 31st of May in the river Fal was due to an outbreak of E coli., with high levels believed to have been found in mussels and oysters.
It's been reported in the media that sewage spills are one of the main causes which will only increase the pressure on South West Water and the government.
Back in April, South West Water was handed a record fine of £2.1m for pollution offences, last month a protest was also organised by Surfers Against Sewage after E.coli was found in water samples.
Today Falmouth Community Fire Station shared that they have been working with Port Health from Cornwall Council collecting water samples using their Fire Boat 'Skath an Tanlu'.
