Falmouth Golf Club's plans for new holiday accommodation have been rejected.
An application had been lodged by D.C Hughes Falmouth Limited to build six holiday lodges off Swanpool Road.
They would have been for guests attending events at the newly constructed golf club, such as weddings.
The lodges were designed to be "high quality structures" with curved, green roofs and natural timber within the elevations, befitting a semi-rural and coastal landscape.
Falmouth Golf Club said the lodges would:
"Complement and enhance the viability of the existing business, and build upon the economic, environmental, and social contribution that Falmouth Golf Club makes to the area, without harming the amenities of nearby residents or harming the intrinsic landscape qualities of the area."
However, there were objections from Falmouth Town Council, Falmouth and Penryn Conservation Committee, Falmouth Civic Society, Falmouth Bay Residents Association, and the South West Coast Path Association.
Falmouth Town Council recommended refusal of the plans, stating the lodges would have an adverse impact upon the AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty).
The application was refused this week with Cornwall Council's Officer Report highlighting the impact the lodges would have on the character and visual appreciation of the area along the edge of Falmouth.
The report concludes:
"The proposal would result in the development of a site which forms part of a larger area of open space identified in the Falmouth Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) as having a High Value, in conflict with the provisions of the Falmouth NDP which seeks to protect such areas from development.
"The development is situated in a highly prominent and elevated coastal location overlooking Falmouth Bay and within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and would be visible in close views from parts of the public footpath and public highway.
"The proposed development would introduce built form and associated roads, paths, car parking, and paraphernalia onto previously undeveloped agricultural land that contributes positively to the landscape character and natural beauty of the AONB."
