A family-run women's clothes shop in Falmouth is planning a sparkly charity ball - aiming to raise money for cancer treatment.

Based on Church Street Falmouth, The Black Pearl has released tickets for their second charity ball. Proceeds will be going to the Sunrise Centre - a modern radiotherapy department at Royal Cornwall Hospital.

The event is due to be held on Friday 20th May at The Greenbank Hotel, featuring performances from Andy Marshall (a session crooner), DJ Tom, with pasties for partygoers.

The brains behind the event is Black Pearl owner Jill Peach, who wanted to do something after hearing stories from customers about the disease and how it has affected their families.

"This is more than just a shop," Jill told Nub News, who says they have a very close relationship with their customers.

Jill continued:

"I have got a lady who has lost her husband to cancer. I know a lady who has breast cancer, she was clear, she went for more surgery and they found another tumour. They all have to go through the Sunrise Centre for radiotherapy. It is such a good little place.

"My mum went there five days a week for five weeks. I know exactly how much hard work they do. Everyone is really lovely in the centre.

"I know a lady whose husband used to run a business in town and she is very poorly with cancer. I said to her just after Christmas that I was planning to throw a ball, and I wanted her at that ball. This is the reason why we are doing it. People can have something to focus on and get well for."

The event has been backed by Falmouth Mayor Steve Eva who offers a lot of help to local charities, "it is really lovely to have his support," Jill added.

Tickets went live on Monday at £40 each. The Black Pearl is urging people to wear black tie and ball gowns for the event (something with sparkles!). There will also be a raffle on the night.
