Situated on Market Strand in Falmouth, Café Strand was opened in December 2018 by Jack and Matty with the idea of producing simple food with the best ingredients.

Since the opening, it has been a slow build, but they are starting to find their feet, Matty, said: "We had a big image problem, this café was usually known for being quite old, slowly we are trying to win over the local trade.

"We are making sure we are a looking after our locals, we do a 10% off deal for students and we do a takeaway service as well. Consistently cooking great food will keep us going."

Matty is originally from Australia and he moved to Cornwall eight years ago. Jack has been in Cornwall for nine years, both worked in St Ives before moving to Falmouth.

The pair stepped away from the fine dining experience and wanted to set up a good quality café in Falmouth, Jack said: "We do your bog-standard, but we try to do it really well [..] we have both done the high-end dining side of things and it is just not something we want to be doing really, we want to be making people happy for a decent price."

The café menu has grown since 2018, with Ramen nights on Friday evenings, and soon to be during lunch hours. Sunday roast dinners are set to be added onto the menu as well.

Matty added: "We want to make a good, well-cooked roast with local meats, a decent plate of food with a nice helping of gravy.

"We have some really nice customers and kind regulars, neither of us have really done the front of house side of things before and we got thrown in the deep end a bit, but we are getting better."
