The Sober Soiree will be taking place at the Princess Pavilion next Saturday (14th of January) and will be offering those who are aiming to be sober or even those who are just 'sober curious' a place to meet like-minded people, network, and have fun.

There will be great food, mocktails, alcohol-free beer/wine, soft drinks, several comedians, and live music, the organisers say it will be a 'fantastic fun evening that you will remember in the morning'.

One of the organisers Johnny Lawerence who is also a self-development coach told Nub News that they received lots of support when putting the event together, he said: " Everyones has been really helpful, Princess Pavillion donated the space and quite a few comedians offered their time so it seems to have a real interest."

Johnny also went on to explain the idea/principles behind the event, he said: "People go sober for lots of different reasons, they may have tried a few times or are just curious about trying it but it's not easy.

"Alcohol is the only drug you have to justify not taking, someone may offer you a cigarette and if you turn it down its no problem but with alcohol that's not the case, this can lead to people staying in and feeling lonely as they believe they can't go out without drinking."

Johnny was not alone in putting this event together he was joined by Sophie Alway from the charity Georgia's Voice, Co-founder of ManDown Ross Jackson Hicks, and Malachy Dunne the founder of the Lifetime therapy centre.

The group is hopeful that anyone who may feel lonely or is even just 'sober curious' will come along and get involved in their first event.
