Community Heart, a Falmouth-based charitable organisation, has been delivering emergency fruit and vegetable boxes to those in need around the community.
Robin Markland, the creator of Community Heart, has been working tirelessly to deliver fresh, nutritious food which has been paid for through community crowdfunding.
The boxes are given to the elderly, families in food poverty and other residents having to be isolated due to the virus.
The food has been received with open arms in a time of immense need.
Martin Rowe spoke about his grandmother who received a box, he said:
"Today Robin Markland dropped a box of vegetables and fruit to my Nan in Falmouth.
"She just rang me in tears I thought some terrible had happened. It turns out they were happy tears.
"My nan is ninety-three and would never ask for help. She was so happy.
"One of the fruits was a mango. My Nan has not had a fresh mango. That nearly made me cry.
"You made an old woman so happy."
Community Heart has been working with Falmouth bar, Pennycomequick, who has given their premises as a distribution hub.
Robin Markland told Nub News:
"It is great to collaborate with Pennycomequick, they are allowing us to use their well-situated venue for Community Heart to use as a distribution Hub."
Robin spoke on the communities response to the food deliveries, saying:
"Recipients and members of their families have been phoning Community Heart in tears saying how happy they are."
Robin says that he received a call from a ninety-year-old lady saying: ''Its the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me".
Each box has enough food in to provide healthy meals for a whole week.
A new crowdfunder has been launched which will last for thirteen days.
Robin said:
"Crucially, food to the door reduces the need for people to leave their homes during these most pivotal times where it is crucial that people stay in a much as possible.
"Each box has enough fresh food for a week, but it is obviously far more than that - I have witnessed that they really are a rainbow delivered to their door and a much-needed boost to help alleviate isolation fatigue and an expression of solidarity."
