Falmouth Cleaning Management has announced which charity it will be supporting this year.

The company was on the lookout for a local charity to support for the coming financial year - and has chosen Penryn & Falmouth Foodbank.

FCM intends to help with fundraising, but will also give up time to help within the charity.

Tom Parker, Director of Falmouth Cleaning Management told Nub News:

"As a local business, we feel strongly about the importance of supporting our local community. This pandemic has been awful for everyone, but it has massively hit charities. We felt, that if in some small way, if we could support a charity with both our time and help fundraising, then we could do our part to help a local cause."

For the last two weeks FCM have asked locals to vote on their choice of local charity, so they could get a few names flying around.

In an overwhelming majority of more than 60% of all "votes" - Penryn & Falmouth Food Bank were the outright favourite.

Tom added:

"We were very pleased to learn this as from a personal point of view, it's a charity that is very close to our hearts. Our business thrives off the holiday home market, which is great for Falmouth and Cornwall as a whole, given what tourism injects into the local economy.

"However, there is an elephant in the room that needs to be spoken about. Whilst we are out there readying properties for guests to stay in, some spending thousands on a single weeks stay, there are local families who go hungry simply because they cannot afford to feed themselves.

"In no way shape or form do we want to vilify the holiday home market, as tourism contributes so much to the Duchy.

"We felt that we had a duty to help support the locals of Falmouth & Penryn and to better our community."

FCM have also moved into a new premises at Unit 1, Kernick Industrial Estate, Penryn.
