Revised plans for apartments on Stracey Road have been given the nod of approval by the Town Council Planning Committee.

In yesterday evenings planning meeting, plans for 7 apartments (reduced from 9) were recommended for approval after addressing previous concerns.

In the new plans, dedicated amenities are now provided balconies/gardens together with improved storage, e-bike charging and recycling enclosures.

The plans for the apartments at Tremor were refused back in November following councillors and residents concerns over parking, the height of the development and whether it would blend in with the surrounding buildings.

The arts and crafts inspired Captains House is also being retained as continued use of 8 refurbished hotel rooms.

The planning officer recognised the effort to address the plans and recommended the plans for approval.

Councillor Spargo still struggled to voice support for the plans, stating that it just "doesn't look right," he said:

"It is a shame the architects have come up with this because it is pretty dismal I think especially the elevation facing Stracey Road.

"I don't agree with the cladding, the cladding is just too much and certainly on that elevation it just doesn't blend in.

"Everything else is pretty good, but I can't understand how architects of that quality come back with something that is totally bland."

In favour of the revised proposals, Councillor Eva commented:

"I quite like new and old next to each other, I think they have gone away, they have done what they have been asked and I think it has reached a stage now where I could support it."

Councillor Chappell added:

"I think it will look quite good and I am quite happy to support it."

The plans will now be passed onto the ward member for further approval.
