Penryn-based charity Sea Sanctuary has been awarded £65,000 in National Lottery funding.

The money will go towards supporting the aftercare for the award-winning G999 project and community work with adults, children and families who are struggling with their mental health.

The new funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, which distributes money raised by National Lottery players for good causes and is the largest community funder in the UK, will enable the Sea Sanctuary to offer our current services for the next six months to clients whose main residence is in Cornwall, either free of charge or at a nominal cost.

Founder and CEO Joe Sabien said:

"We're delighted that The National Lottery Community Fund has recognised our work in this way. Now, thanks to National Lottery players we will be able to support many people who are struggling at this time. This is important because the mental health impact of the pandemic is likely to last much longer than the physical health impact."

As restrictions of COVID-19 lift, Sea Sanctuary is looking to increase local support within the community including the award-winning Sail into Life programme, individual therapy, community outreach, and new support groups.
