A group of students from the University of Exeter have set up "Fal Food Waste" to encourage behavioural change amongst students both on-campus and in Falmouth, in an attempt to reduce food waste.
The students, Jess, Marilla, Rachael, Emma and Dylan met in a series of Climate Change and Society modules and after discussions outside of lectures, they became shocked to see how much food was being wasted on campus and at larger events.
Fal Food Waste was rolled out in early October, with many plans in the works including a petition to Cornwall Council to bring forward food collections.

A spokesperson for Fal Food Waste told Nub News:
"We hope to make some meaningful changes in our community. It would be great if the Falmouth Community Fridge could be a roaring success.
"We would love it if our local shops would start donating food waste to food banks or were more open to residents taking the waste for their own consumption. We know there are a lot of liability issues surrounding this, but we think this is an area that needs tackling.
"We would also be incredibly happy if cafes and shops were more accepting of freegan. Our main goal, however, is to encourage individuals to start meal prepping, giving away their waste food and living more food waste free lives.
"We are aware our society very much perpetuates wasting food through use-by dates and a general health and safety paranoia, and we aim to provide our followers with easy storage hacks to be able to preserve their food for longer.
"For us, it's not just about educating people on the issue, but it's about encouraging people to join us in our mission and the pledges and challenges we set."
Putting forward the question about setting up a group in the current climate, they added:
"With the current employment situation like it is, it's useful more than ever to be able to save money, save time and save the planet through our tips and tricks."
