Respect Falmouth's Coastline: Keeping safe in the water is more important than ever

By The Editor 16th Sep 2021

In these uncertain and crazy times, it is easy to want to go to the beach and forget the world for a little bit.

Over the last week, however, the county has seen a disturbing amount of trouble in the waters. With the lack of lifeguarding on many beaches, this is something that needs to stop.

In a previous statement by Falmouth Coastguard, they described how people need to respect the coastline.

"Coronavirus hasn't gone away and your choices might put our frontline responders at risk," they said.

"The majority of beaches are not currently lifeguarded, making it even more vital to take extra care in these extraordinary times."

The horrible news of two fatalities in Cornwall, including a teenage girl, at our coastlines yesterday hammers home the need to stay vigilant and responsible right now.

A surfer is being treated in Treliske after he was pulled out of the water unconscious in Porthtowan yesterday.

Just last Wednesday alone, coastguards were called out to 152 incidents and rescued 119 people who found themselves in trouble.

Please stay responsible in our waters. Respect the coastline.

Thank you to all of the amazing rescue services for keeping us safe every day.
