Princess Pavilion responded to 'negative comments' on social media
The Princess Pavilion's General Manager, Chas Palmer-Williams, has released a statement in response to comments made on social media.
The venue is now run by Falmouth Town Council and aims to be a community venue with lots of free events including their summer market 'Street Eats and Summer Beats' and their summer of free live music after teaming up with Source Fm.
Although there were no names mentioned the pavilion had responded to a post on an independent Facebook group about the venue that was asking why they weren't open on a summers evening with plenty of people in the town for the Tall Ships event.
The pavilion responded and explained that by opening in the evening without an event they would be losing money.
Here is the full statement from Chas Palmer-Williams:
"After seeing quite a lot of negative comments online, I felt as though it would be only fair to share some accurate information regarding the Princess Pavilion.
"Firstly, The Pavilion is doing much better from a financial point of view. This is a fact, with numbers to back this up.
"Our new management team (who have years of collective experience in venue, event, hospitality, wedding, and music industry management) have looked closely at what does, in fact bring in revenue to the Pavilion, and we are prioritising these areas of the business first to help that area grow, which it indeed is.
"We do acknowledge that there are many improvements that can happen here and we take on board this feedback on a daily basis. We will get these things done, but we have to do the most pressing first.
"This does mean the Pavilion may be closed sometimes so that the revenue made from these events helps pay for the Pavilion's cost of running.
"The Pavilion is either paid fully for by council tax, or it needs to make money to help lower the cost of service, which we are successfully doing. Our team have now booked in over 200 events for this year whilst still helping community groups meet here over 200 times a year.
"As the Pavilion is a shared place, we understand that it means different things to different people. For some it is a café, for some somewhere to watch a brass band play in the sun. For others it's a place for their knitting group to meet. For others, it's a place to go and watch a great band in a historic venue. We try to balance all of these expectations.
2It would be great if the people who are most vocal with their criticisms actually helped support the Pavilion in a positive manner as our staff work very hard, 363 days of the year. Abuse online or in person to our staff is not acceptable.
"If anyone is interested in all the events that we have booked (as we have many coming up) you can pop in and join our mailing list, grab a flyer from the Pavilion that will be available next week or follow any of our social media channels (we post regularly) with correct information.
"We would like to thank all the amazing customers that actual come to The Pavilion and are always very supportive. We take these all on board and will have many more improvements on the way.
"If you do appreciate what our staff are doing and have come to events or community groups, we would love to hear your comments below. Thank you."
