Penryn Ladies welcomed Crediton Ladies to the Memorial Ground on Sunday, amidst Storm Jorge.
This was Penryn Ladies first home game since December, due to numerous storms causing games to be called off across the county.
Crediton Ladies provided the Borough Ladies with one of their toughest games of the season, when they played them before Christmas, with Penryn Ladies narrowly defeating them 19-27, so they were prepared for a hard afternoons work.
With all the recent Storms, a lot of rain has resulted in the pitches not being in the best playing condition, which was going to make Penryn Ladies usual fast-paced game difficult to play.
Penryn Ladies kicked off and Crediton Ladies gathered the kickoff and quickly made 30 metres up the pitch. Penryn Ladies settled into the game and the turnovers started to come. Despite the conditions, Penryn Ladies backs ran their moves beautifully with Sarah Baggs running in the first try. Unfortunately, her afternoon was cut short with a nasty ankle injury. We all wish Sarah well with a speedy recovery.
Penryn Ladies continued with their dominant display with further tries coming from Sarah Stovell and Beth Hampton. With the rain pouring down the forwards took charge with powerful runs and a phenomenal display in the scrums. With the rain stopping Penryn Ladies could get back to the running rugby. Megan Betts who was having an excellent game on the wing made an amazing run drawing the players in and offloading to Frankie Rickard to run in Penryns 4th try of the afternoon. Sarah Stovell crossed the line for her second try of the day. Penryn Ladies ended the half with a 31-0 lead.
Crediton Ladies had not given up and kept pushing hard. With the mud sapping the energy out of the players, Penryn Ladies bench played a big part in the game, with Chantal Watson and Katie Pascoe making big impacts when coming on for the forwards. Penryn Ladies were camped on Crediton Ladies line and it was Penryn Ladies hooker Zeta Penrose who dived over for a well-worked try. This topped off a great shift from Zeta, who ran well with the ball in hand and had some good turnovers in the rucks.
With Crediton Ladies still looking dangerous with ball in hand, Penryn Ladies knew they had to work hard in defence. Penryn Ladies finished the game strongly with 2 tries from Lauren Chenoweth.
Final score 50-0.
With all the forwards having an amazing game choosing one for forwards of the match was a hard decision. However, Chantal Watson received the award this week for her epic work rate and strong runs. Again it was a hard decision choosing from the backs with everyone having such a good game. The backing the match went to Roberta Scotland, who started off in the forwards but stepped up when scrum-half Steph Trapp went off injured. Bobby controlled the game very well from scrum-half. A big well done to all the players.
Tries: Sarah Baggs, Sarah Stovell, Beth Hampton, Frankie Rickard, Zeta Penrose, Lauren Chenoweth.
Conversions: Frankie Rickard, Annie McKelvey.
