Labour leader Keir Starmer is visiting Falmouth today to chat with local business owners and workers.

"It's absolutely crucial we protect and support jobs in the UK's world-leading tourist industry," he wrote on Twitter today.

The Labour party recently analysed NOS data and found that places with higher levels of tourism jobs have seen higher levels of benefit claimants.

These places have risen 174% from February to June compared to the rest of the UK, which has risen 109%.

Falmouth has 24% of workers in tourism-related jobs and has seen a 140% increase in unemployment claimants since lockdown.

Keir Starmer said: "We have world-class tourist destinations across the UK but the jobs crisis facing them is stark.

"With many businesses still unable to reopen fully, the Government's one-size-fits-all approach to withdrawing support is putting jobs at risk."
