Cherilyn Mackrory, Conservative MP for Truro and Falmouth, yesterday announced she will be joining the 48 hour Twitter boycott.
This weekend, popular grime artist Wiley released a series of heavily antisemitic tweets over the space of two days.
The mass online protest aims to bring attention to the slowness of Twitter suspending Wiley's account.
Cherilyn Mackrory wrote on Twitter saying:
"I'll be joining the 48-hour walkout.
"@Twitter has failed to act in the face of blatant hate speech and racism.
"Users agree to abide by certain terms & conditions as community members but those rules aren't being applied consistently or robustly enough. #nosafespaceforjewhate"
Cherilyn's tweet has garnered twenty-five replies at the time of writing this.
Since the backlash; Facebook, Instagram and now Twitter have suspended Wiley's accounts.
All of the tweets in question have also been removed.
The discourse on Twitter seems to be divided with many thinking that a 48-hour boycott won't be enough to make a statement.
One Twitter user, @RespectIsVital, wrote: "Why has it taken Wiley being Antisemitic, for people to boycott Twitter for 48 hours?
"I'm genuinely asking."
