Current councillor and Deputy Mayor of Falmouth Kirstie Edwards has been voted in by fellow councillors to become the town's next official Mayor in May.

Cllr Edwards was initially voted to become deputy mayor back in 2021 with newly elected Falmouth Town Council and mayors picked, before being re-elected with current Mayor Steve Eva in 2022.

The pair have proved to be a successful partnership but now Cllr Edwards will take over the position from Cllr Eva later this year, on a post on social media she thanked the current mayor for his mentorship and support and called him an 'absolute legend'.

The Mayor-Making Ceremony will take place on the 22nd of May and will officially confirm the decision made by the council in the town meeting yesterday (Monday 13th) you can see last year's ceremony here Falmouth: Celebrations at Princess Pavilion as Mayor Making ceremony.

Cllr Edwards will become the first female mayor in Falmouth since Maureen Davies back in 2005, Maureen sadly passed away in January this year.

As well as thanking the former mayor Kirstie took to social media to share her thoughts on being voted Mayor, she said: "It's been a whirlwind these last two years and I remain slightly confused at the faith people put in me- I have huge imposter syndrome! I promise to keep trying to do the right thing and to be honest when I haven't. I promise to show integrity and represent Falmouth to the very best of my ability."
