The annual Falmouth Town Council Meeting and Mayor Making took place in front of over one hundred invited guests at the Princess Pavilions.

At a ceremony last night (16th), councillor Steve Eva was re-elected as Mayor for 2022-2023 and councillor Kirstie Edwards was re-elected as Deputy Mayor.

Describing his fourth term in the office as an 'honour', Mayor Eva thanked his fellow councillors for placing their trust in him before commenting on the Council's recent acquisition of the Princess Pavilion as "a big step…but one we did because our residents wanted us to……and we did the right thing."

Mayor Eva then proceeded to highlight the many positive post-covid events the Falmouth Town Team has planned for the next year including the ever-popular Sea Shanty Festival, Falmouth Week and the annual Christmas Lights switch on.

Mayor Eva also took the time to personally thank members of the Falmouth Town Council staff, including The Mayor's secretaries Valerie Rogers and Emily Middleditch.

Deputy Mayor Edwards also thanked her fellow councillors, describing her election to the role as "such a privilege" before explaining how the position of Deputy Mayor for her is "not all about cutting ribbons, parades and drinking tea although I enjoy that bit" but also about "reaching out into areas of the community where people feel forgotten and listening, really really listening."

Together, Mayor Eva and Deputy Mayor Kirstie also reaffirmed their commitment to continuing their popular joint Friday walkabouts through the town with both agreeing that they were an important way of connecting with the community and listening to people's concerns.

Mayor Eva ended the meeting with his announcement that the mayor's charity for 2022-2023 will be a bespoke partnership between Castle Sports and local Falmouth schools to provide sports clothing and equipment to underprivileged children in the community.

After the meeting, the Mayor, the Deputy Mayor and their fellow councillors had their photograph taken in front of the bandstand in Gyllyngdune Gardens before joining invited guests for drinks and canapes in the Princess Pavilion where they were treated to a performance by the Nankersey Male Choir.
