Fire crews were called out yesterday evening (27th) to contain a propane gas cylinder that had caught fire at Helland Gardens, Penryn.

Overall, twelve firefighters from Falmouth and Tolvaddon attended the call to a cylinder on fire on a balcony.

Neighbours near the property were advised to stay in their properties.

A Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said:

"Fire crews confirmed on their arrival that the 6kg propane cylinder was well alight on their arrival. Firefighters used one hose reel jet, two breathing apparatus and a safety jet on the fire.

"Firefighters also used a thermal imaging camera to monitor the temperature of the cylinder at the incident."

At 19:55 the cylinder was confirmed as no longer venting and was placed in a drum of water to cool down and prevent any reignition.
