A Flushing resident who volunteers to pick up litter around the village has spoken out after finding human poo on the beach over the past two days.

Flushing residents have been battling to keep the village clean after reporting influxes of visitors congregating on and around the beach.

Racheal Pashley, who volunteers for the Flushing Volunteer Group, was doing the usual beach clean when she came across the faeces.

Racheal Pashley said:

"Second day running we find a human poo on the beach. This is not acceptable.

"I am part of a volunteer group who are taking it in turns to clean the beach every day either am or pm, one was also found yesterday as well.

"On this occasion, I was not able to pick this up due to the sloppy nature of it. So beware it is by the steps to the left towards sunny cove."

The volunteer group has been cleaning the beach every day, and Rachael feels this leads to some people not fully understanding how bad the litter problem is.

"People might think it hasn't been that bad compared to what's happening in the rest of the country but this is down to the work the group are doing every day. So it may appear misleading that it is generally clean in the day but I can say that it is not what it seems," Rachael said.

Interesting items of litter are being collected to make an art piece to create a statement on the battle the village is currently fighting.

Evening times are the worst for litter and residents have reported finding glass bottles, plastic bottles, cigarette butts, laughing gas canisters, baby wipes and bagged up dog poo.
