WeSUP Paddleboard Centre, based at Gyllyngvase Beach has described feeling "let down" after a board rack was broken into pieces.

Details of the incident were shared on social media, staff turned up for work yesterday morning (Friday) and found the smashed board rack.

A spokesperson for WeSUP said:

"An act of gross vandalism that stings our hearts and adds another burden to bear at this crucial time for us. We feel utterly let down by our community. Falmouth is such a beacon of bright positivity that it seems unthinkable to allow such obscene violence to be condoned.

"We wouldn't have thought that anything other than a mean easterly swell could bring destruction like this to our beach.

"Whether or not this was a local incident undertaken by members of our community, the sheer lack of respect, foresight and decency is glaringly obvious."

Despite the incident, Wesup urged the community to remain vigilant and stand together to prevent further incidents like this one.

Wesup, like many other small independent businesses in Falmouth, is on the long road of recovery due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Wesup continued:

"We have finally got ourselves into a position of being able to open our doors, welcoming back our customers and resume providing a much-needed dose of freedom on the ocean.

"Having just enjoyed a sunny week getting lessons, club members and hires on the water, it feels as if we are back on track to enjoy summer at last.

"We know we have the support of our loyal friends, customers and community to keep incidents like this off our beaches."
