A group of travellers have set up an unauthorised encampment on the top field at Dracaena Pitches in Falmouth.

The travellers moved onto the fields owned by Falmouth Town Council yesterday evening (17th).

Residents have voiced their concerns with the pitches only just being repaired over the summer in preparation for the new season.

It is not clear whether they are the same group, but an unauthorised encampment was also ordered to move on from The Hornworks near Pendennis Castle in early July.

When approached for further comment, Cornwall Council said it is private land, a matter for the landowner to deal with.

The police visited the site early this morning, a spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said they were looking to move them on as soon as possible.

Jayne Kirkham, Cornwall Councillor for Falmouth Penwerris, added:

"The Dracaena Centre is running holiday clubs for children during the summer and the football pitches are in use by local children all the time.

"Having people camping on them will damage them and impact on the children. It is completely the wrong place for a site to be.

"The Town Council, Cornwall Council and the police are working on the legalities required now."
