Children's Hospice South West (CHSW) is appealing for volunteers in Falmouth and the surrounding areas to help them out with a variety of tasks in the local community.
As lockdown restrictions start to ease and fundraising events are back on the cards CHSW is looking to recruit more volunteers across the county and is keen for anyone with some spare time to get in touch.
Alice Merrett, Area Fundraiser for CHSW explains who they would love to hear from; "If you have a couple of hours free in your week or your month then we would love to hear from you. We have a range of tasks that you could do either from home or within your local area that would help us in building up a presence in local communities. From dropping empty collection tins at venues, attending cheque presentations and supermarket collections, representing CHSW at local events or even doing research for us from home, there are lots of options and we would love to hear from you if you are interested."
Alice continues; "There is no pressure and you don't have to commit to a certain amount of hours each week, it can be on more of an ad-hoc basis. Tasks may include things like putting up posters for an upcoming event or attending something like a fete on our behalf. It is simply an opportunity to give your time to a cause that offers care and support to children and families from your local area."
CHSW runs three children's hospices across the south west including Little Harbour in St Austell which currently supports more than 145 children with life-limiting illnesses and their families. Little Harbour offers families resilience and emergency stays at the hospice, virtual contact, support at home, end of life care and bereavement support. It costs more than £3 million to run the hospice each year which is why the time and skills of volunteers in local areas can really help to raise awareness of CHSW at a time which has been so uncertain for the whole charity sector.
