This afternoon, the Falmouth Town team delivered covid tests to businesses across town.

The team, made up of Falmouth Town Council and Falmouth BID, said there was an "overwhelmingly positive response" as they took action to help control the covid spike.

The council and BID are taking a proactive response following a serious spike in covid cases within the town - 238 cases as of today (23rd), in Falmouth, Penryn, and Mabe.

Cornwall Councillor for Falmouth Penwerris Jayne Kirkham told Nub News:

"It has been a great response, some businesses said they didn't need any but most of them have taken them and are using them.

"The council and BID are stepping in, they are talking are just doing targeted testing for businesses who have been affected. However, we know its hospitality businesses and we know which ones have had to shut so we thought, why don't we just target hospitality businesses?

"If hospitality businesses aren't affected this week they might be next week, if this spike is in Falmouth it probably won't go away unless we do something. Then it might spread to other towns and then we have a real problem.

"We thought if we could help, get more tests out to more businesses, they can be testing their staff twice a week if not more, that has to be a positive thing."

Councillor Kirkham also revealed they are hoping to get some more next week.
