Falmouth Town Council's letter to MP after vote to continue dumping raw sewage into rivers and seas

Falmouth Town Council has "strongly objected" to a recent decision to continue pumping raw sewage into rivers and seas.
Last week, Conservative MPs rejected a movement from the House of Lords to end sewage being discharged directly into the water.
Falmouth's MP Cherilyn Mackrory also rejected the House of Lords proposal which would have put a legal duty on companies to end the discharge of untreated sewage from storm overflows.
At the moment, water companies are allowed to dump untreated sewage into the waters in extreme weather to avoid the system backing up.
In a meeting of Falmouth Town Council members last night (25th), a letter was read out that was due to be sent to Cherilyn Mackrory explaining their disappointment with her decision.
A section of the letter reads:
"We as a town take matters of the environment very seriously and have been working with community partners for a number of years to ensure our town is protected and cared for as it can possibly be.
"You can imagine our horror to find our own MP then voted to allow water companies to continue to regularly pump untreated sewage into our waters."
The Town Council has requested that Cherilyn "looks again" at the decision.
Falmouth Mayor Steve Eva added:
"This not an assassination of Cherilyn but I think she has gone the wrong way on this one."
The vote between council members to send the letter to Cherilyn was unanimous.
