An Italian restaurant is doing things differently in Falmouth with horse meat and octopus burgers.
Pomodoro, on Arwenack Street, is run by the manager of Brothers Pizza who wanted to step away from the common Italian restaurant dishes and treat locals to an "authentic taste of Italy with a twist".
Andrea, who is originally from Sardinia, took over the restaurant last year and recently relaunched with a fresh menu, and some new décor.
What a great job as well. The restaurant is stunning, and you feel like you're sitting in Italy.
"We have things that people won't find anywhere else," Andrea told Nub News.
There are loads of different things to try, fried pizza (folded pizza stuffed with tomato and mozzarella), Ravioli al Cinghiale (ravioli filled with wild boar meat served with cream & saffron sauce), Su Cuaddu (horse meat burger, burrata, fried aubergine, fresh tomato and rocket served with homemade fries), and Su Pruppu (crispy octopus, squid ink and saffron mayo, fresh tomato, basil, and homemade crisps with fries).
The unique options are proving a big hit - with customers returning for the horse meat and the octopus.
Overall, it is a brilliant experience. The food looks great and most importantly tastes great as well. Whilst waiting for your meal you can get soft focaccia, alongside olives and oil.
The octopus burger is really fresh with a light coating, complimented well by crispy little fries full of flavour.
If you aren't keen on desserts, there is a small free one with your meal. The Iced Coffee Cream. You've got to try it. Pomodoro's own recipe, this shot of cool coffee sprinkled with biscuit is the perfect way to end the meal.
There is plenty of drinks to choose from with your meal, Pomodoro stock Cornwall's Tan Dowr Vodka, and they have a selection of rare wines all the way from Sardinia.
Andrea told Nub News:
"We are trying to bring stuff that nobody can get in Falmouth. We try to be a bit different.
"Most people when they see horse meat are a bit wary of it, but we have had quite a few people really love it. People expect a strong flavour but it's quite delicate. We serve it with a burrata which is mozzarella with cream in it. It all mixes together and makes a tasty dish.
"I have been working my whole life in restaurants. My family used to have a big wood fire oven in Sardinia where we baked bread. I have been cooking my whole life, baking bread since I was about four years old. It runs in the family."
Andrea added:
"Everything here apart from vegetables is imported from Italy. The wine is straight from Sardinia, tomatoes, flour, olive oil, all from Italy.
"When people come in for a meal it's for an experience. They taste Italy. Everything is proper authentic and fresh, made from scratch."
Pomodoro is open 1pm-9pm Monday to Sunday (closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays).
