Falmouth hospitality businesses have been sharing their reactions and thanking customers for support following the news that England will go into a second lockdown on Thursday.

The lockdown will come into force at midnight on Wednesday and will see pubs, restaurants, cafes, hairdressers and all non-essential shops closed.

Many businesses will be opening extra hours up until Wednesday or are offering special deals to get rid of stock.

The Working Boat announced its closure this afternoon, saying they were extremely "disappointed and saddened" by the decision.

The pub wrote on social media:

"After receiving the news on Saturday that a second lockdown is happening from Thursday, we are saddened to be battening down the hatches once again after 10pm close on Wednesday night.

"We are extremely disappointed and saddened by this decision and the inevitably devastating impact it is going to have on small businesses and the hospitality industry who have barely recovered from the first lockdown.

"Our thoughts go out to all our friends in Falmouth and further afield who are closing up shop this week too. We remain hopeful that we'll be able to reopen on Thursday 3rd December and will keep everyone posted.

"We've had an awesome summer with everyone in our marquee by the sea, and have loved seeing all your faces for smooth brews and harbour views. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of your support."

Falmouth Rugby Club will be closing after serving on Wednesday but is offering a 'Drink Out to Help Out' scheme to help clear stock, Monday to Wednesday 5pm-10pm.

A Falmouth pub owner spoke to Nub News following a ban on takeaway alcohol, The Moth & The Moon's Matt Reay said it would jeopardise businesses.

The Games Room, Market Street announced its closure from Wednesday, praising the work of their team on social media bar Manager Kathy St Quintin said:

"I would like to take the chance to applaud the AMAZING team who have worked like demons over the last few months - be kind to them over the next few days they deserve it."

The team is still taking bookings for the remaining days, call on 01326 212011.
