Permission has been refused for new signage at Mangos, Falmouth, branded "hideous and abominable" by the Falmouth & Penryn Conservation Committee.

The plans were a complete revamp of the front of the Church Street bar with new advertising, wall lanterns, digitally printed displays, and colour changing floodlights.

In a concluding statement from the planning officer, the proposal was seen to have an "adverse impact" upon the Falmouth Conservation Area and nearby listed buildings.

A spokesperson for Falmouth & Penryn Conservation Committee added:

"The appearance is totally inappropriate for the setting and we would like to lodge a very strong objection.

"The committee finds the overall appearance of the proposed design to be frankly hideous and abominable. The proposed design would undoubtedly cause harm to the conservation area."

It is unclear yet whether Mangos will submit a new application.

The plans were also knocked back in March by Falmouth Town Council's planning committee.
