On Tuesday 30th June over 30 Truro and Falmouth constituents met online with Cherilyn Mackrory to discuss the importance of addressing climate change.
This mass lobby of parliament was organised by The Climate Coalition under the title The Time is Now and over 250 MPs took part across the country.
The local constituents who attended included councillors, members of organisations such as the Cornwall Wildlife Trust and RSPB as well as members of the public.
Andrew Lancaster who attended said:
"As well as Cherilyn's clear support for so many of these issues which need urgent attention, it was most positive to hear about many green recovery projects and initiatives, beavers solving flooding problems in Ladock, offshore wind in the Celtic Sea, local rewilding projects and at a macro level changes to the Agricultural Bill to answer the fears about lowering our food standards and animal welfare methods.
"However, it is clear that so much more needs to be done, and urgently, to avoid a disaster far worse than COVID-19. The time really is now."
There was a healthy contingent of WI members and one doctor even turned up (online) in his scrubs.
Cherilyn has made no secret of her interest in green issues and she gave the meeting a full hour and half of her schedule.
This meant that well over 20 people had a chance to speak to her and ask questions about a range of issues including local green initiatives such as Truro woodlands, the planning procedures that are leading to a disproportionate of unaffordable and energy wasteful new houses, and national issues like building regulations and 'Net Zero' targets for Government departments and the 'Build, build, build' agenda.
