The Falmouth Town Team (the award-winning destination management partnership between Falmouth Business Improvement District (BID) and Falmouth Town Council), have showcased their Positive Engagement Plan with Cornwall Council, BIDs across the south-west and other regional organisations, and have hit the road running with a series of schemes helping businesses get back on their feet.
One entity within this plan is to offer more frequent and prominent cleaning in Falmouth town.
Falmouth's Positive Engagement Plan is being used as a recovery template for other towns across the region. Projects within the plan are-framed within six key focus areas - business engagement, community engagement, public realm, creative, online and branding and communications.
These six thematic areas are assigned into Immediate, Medium and Long-term priorities. As part of Falmouth's Positive Engagement Plan immediate tasks, a weekly clean of Falmouth's Town centre has been taking place as businesses and shops re-open their doors to the public.
Coordinated by Falmouth Town Council, the public, Pendennis Shipyard, Santander and Pendennis Castle have all jumped on board to ensure Falmouth is a clean and safe place to visit. This scheme has developed into "Falmouth's Monday Clean Club".
Richard Gates, Falmouth Town Manager said:
"As businesses open again it is brilliant to see a collaboration between businesses and the community to get the town ready for visitors.
"We are very much looking forward to welcoming people back to Falmouth in a safe and clean environment. Many plans are underway behind the scenes, including developments of the public realm and an increase in marketing activities. Thank you to all who have
collaborated with Falmouth Town Council and Falmouth BID to keep Falmouth on the map during what has undoubtedly been a challenging few months." The clean will take place from 12 pm – 3 pm every Monday in the heart of Falmouth Town, with an emphasis on litter-picking, sign cleaning, weeding, and regeneration schemes of public spaces. Falmouth Town Council is leading the cleans and providing all of the equipment. Steve Hancock, Pendennis' Training Manager added: "Our first-year apprentices have been amazing during the lockdown period, volunteering to sew face masks and support local good causes whilst maintaining their apprenticeship studies online. They didn't hesitate to step up and help out around Falmouth town. "Our aim is for our apprentices to be well-rounded individuals, they will undoubtedly have learnt valuable new skills during this time."
