Questions were asked about the new Falmouth Town Council website this week which is set to cost around £50,000.

At a Finance and General Purposes meeting on Monday evening (13th), councillors raised concerns after being told the cost of the new website. Discussing the council budget, finance officer Ruth Thomas told councillors that quotes were coming in at £50,000 for a new website. This would be made up of £20,000 in reserve for the website and putting in another £30,000.

"It seems like a lot of money," Cllr Evans commented after looking through the notes - to which Cllr Jewell agreed.

Town Clerk Mark Williams responded by saying: "There was a budget for that and once we went to tender we realised that budget was woefully inadequate."

Mrs Thomas explained the system includes ongoing support, "it is a very technical setup," she said.

Mayor Steve Eva said: "For years we have been playing around with websites. Tried to do it on the cheap and it hasn't worked. The council is so big now that it needs a good website. If we can get a website fit for the 21st century. If that's what it costs, then that's what it costs. We have to deliver a website fit for purpose."
