The National Maritime Museum has bid for a licence to host activities in Events Square.

The proposal for on and off sales of alcohol and regulated entertainment was put before the Falmouth Town Council licensing committee this week.

The museum is looking to secure a licence for entertainment Monday to Saturday 10am to midnight Monday to Saturday, and Sundays 10am to 11pm and supply of alcohol Monday to Saturday 11am to midnight, and Sunday 11am to 11pm.

A condition was agreed upon with Environmental Protection that the music level does not exceed 15db 15 mins above the background noise level between the hours of 9am and 11pm. The boundary of any noise-sensitive premises and at any other time should not be audible at the boundary of any noise-sensitive premises.

A spokesperson for the applicants told the committee: "Others hold licences in Events Square but the museum has never held one. Should the museum wish to do anything in the square, which it only wishes to do on an occasional basis, we would have to apply for a TENs. Should we want to do something like a farmers market it becomes more difficult. The square would be used for activities on an occasional basis."

Cllr Eva commented: "Every other property out there has got a licence to serve outside. It's one of those places where you do sit outside. I see no reason why the museum shouldn't have the same opportunity as the rest."

The committee voted to support the application which will now go to Cornwall Council.
