Falmouth's Member of Parliament Cherilyn Mackrory has welcomed the success of a local campaign to devolve the responsibility for running the Princess Pavilion and Gyllyngdune Garden from Cornwall Council to Falmouth Town Council.

Princess Pavilion has been closed since March due to Covid restrictions which Cornwall Council say has made it unviable to be open currently, despite other facilities run by the council's leisure provider GLL being reopened across Cornwall.

The move, which comes after Cherilyn wrote to the Leader of Cornwall Council earlier this month, urging him to come up with a viable agreement for Falmouth Town Council to work with, has been welcomed across Falmouth.

Cherilyn said:

"I am delighted to see Cornwall Council act quickly and work with Falmouth Town Council to have brought a viable decision forward that secures the future of this invaluable community asset for Falmouth.

"Earlier this month I wrote to the Leader of Cornwall Council, reminding him of the importance of this asset in Falmouth and asking him to expedite the decision process and am pleased that they have listened and acted accordingly.

"This is a great outcome for Falmouth and I look forward to working with the town council and community to ensure that the very best is made of this venue in the future."
