New charitable group feeds Falmouth's homeless and has big plans for Cornwall
A new movement aiming to tackle homelessness in Cornwall did their first food run in Falmouth on Sunday evening.
The group handed out ten portions of hot vegetable stew with fresh bread to people in need around the community. Pasta lunch boxes were also provided for the following day.
The project, which only formed a few days ago, has gained over 300 likes on Facebook and attention from all over Cornwall.
Falmouth Nub News spoke to Nonny France, creator of Feed The Homeless, she said:
"I got inspiration from a six year old boy named Leo. He and his mum deliver hot meals to homeless people in Penryn and Falmouth.
"I thought, if a six year old boy can achieve that - think about what we can achieve when we bring the community together.
"In the coming years, we want a system in place where we can provide food and clothing for street sleepers on a regular basis. That is the ultimate aim here.
"We know there is already so much great charitable work going on locally, we just want to support and add to it.
"I really want this to bring people together."
The group also did a warm clothing collection in Falmouth High Street last night.
Inspired by the Falmouth charity, Falmouth Helpers, they hope to start a restaurant scheme in Truro and Penzance which will be part of their overall regular feeding goal.
It is clear that the community is already pulling together to support Feed The Homeless.
In the charities first day of operating, The Last Chance Hotel donated 200 soup cups and 200 lunchboxes to help with the food runs.
Nonny continued:
"People are coming out from all sorts of places to help. It is truly incredible.
"It wouldn't be possible without everyone. It makes me believe we can really make a difference."
Feed The Homeless are hoping to do another food run in Truro this weekend.
