The finalists of the South West England Tourism Excellence Awards were announced last week, selected from the winners of the county awards events that have taken place across the region over the past month.

The next stage of the awards will take place at Exeter Cathedral on 6th February 2020.

One of the finalists is St Michaels Resort, Falmouth.

Resort Director for St Michaels, Louise Uys-Jones said:

"It's such an honour - the excitement can be felt across all our teams within the resort. To be named both Large Hotel of the Year and Spa & Wellbeing Experience of the Year at the Cornwall Tourism Awards in November was a great achievement and one that our staff worked so hard to deserve.

"To now go one step further and be recognised as a key player in the South West tourism industry as a whole is something that we are very proud of.

"It's recognition of the hard work our staff carry out every day; they are at the heart of the resort. We have over 160 members of staff who work together to create memorable moments for all guests and that's integral to the success of the business.

"Being shortlisted for this award shows that St Michaels Resort is among the best hotels in the region, which we are very grateful for.

"Not only is Falmouth a beautiful place to visit – it is a hub of innovation and creativity, and it's fantastic to see this being showcased at the awards. It's also a reflection of Falmouth's year-round appeal, unlike some seasonal destinations in Cornwall.

"For us to be amongst some of the best businesses in the South West is a great achievement and one that will benefit the community as a whole."

The other finalists from Falmouth are Mylor Sailing and Powerboat School in the Accessible and Inclusive Tourism Award and Active and Sporting Experience Award. The sailing school was also commended in the Learning Experience Of The Year.

The Pandora Inn is a finalist for the Pub Of The Year.

Trebah Garden is a finalist for the Large Visitor Attraction Of The Year.

Robin Barker, director of Services for Tourism Ltd, who manages the Awards, commented:

"Our team members continue to be humbled by the excellence and ambition we see amongst our leading tourism businesses. They continue to invest, innovate and improve – and I offer them all our congratulations."
