SEWAGE warnings have been issued in and around Falmouth following recent heavy rainfall.
Yesterday we brought the news that the Met Office had put in place a weather warning as there could be 'unseasonably' strong winds as 'remnants' of Storm Kyle.
Surfers Against Sewage said on social media:
"Heavy rainfall means CSOs are spewing sewage into UK rivers and bathing waters as we speak."
The details of the bathing water quality can be found on an interactive map by clicking here.
At Maenporth, "Bathing not advised today due to the likelihood of reduced water quality. Porth is a long, flat, sandy beach with a high tidal range and a river running across the NE side. A sewer overflow discharges into Porth Stream some 100m upstream of the beach. This location is covered by Pollution Risk Forecasting."
At Gyllyngvase Beach SAS advised, "Storm sewage has been discharged from a sewer overflow in this location within the past 48 hours.
"Gyllyngvase is a popular beach resort on the south coast of Cornwall situated at the mouth of the River Fal. It is a long sandy beach with the rocky reef at each end and a promenade to the west.
"Within site of Pendennis Castle, Gylly is a very gently sloping beach backed by beautiful gardens to the west. Although no sewer overflows discharge directly onto Gyllyngvase bathing water may be affected by a nearby overflow some 400m to the southwest of the beach. Other discharges into the Fal River may also have an affect here, along with diffuse pollution."
