The community gathered this evening to celebrate the switch on of the lights in a special festive event at Princess Pavilion.

Falmouth's Christmas Tree Festival is held every year, trees are donated and decorated by community groups and businesses covering them with decorations and lights.

The event was sponsored for the 5th year by A&P Falmouth who pay for all of the trees and the lights.

A&P lent the services of their apprentices for the day to set up the trees. Community volunteers also came in during the week to help put the lights up.

A brilliant team effort from so many different people to put the event on.

The evening kicked off with carols on the bandstand from the pupils of Marlborough School, a superb performance from the school choir.

The lights were then switched on by A&P Falmouth apprentices, and the deputy mayor's daughter.

Then there was a free carol concert in The Garden Room from St Stythians Brass Band.

Addressing the crowd, Falmouth Mayor Steve Eva added:

"This (Princess Pavilion) belongs to Falmouth and its residents. It is here forever, it is not going to be built on, it will be a function space for a long time to come.

"Jackie has put in so much time and effort to get all of this together, she is very important to the gardens and does a lot up here.

"Also to Pat, Kerry, and Henrietta, without them none of this happens. I would like to thank the apprentices, you have come up here and you have given your time. Penny and Graham, I couldn't say anymore about them, they are just fantastic."
