Residents voice anger over North Parade development

Local residents have voiced their frustrations at a proposed development on 28 North Parade - as plans have been put forward for the demolition of existing building and erection of 7 dwellings.

Residents in and around the area of North Parade, Falmouth have "strongly objected" to the plans, stating overdevelopment, parking and wasn't in keeping with surrounding properties among the reasons for objection.

Submitted by Roberts of CSA Architects, the application seeks approval for the demolition of one house and construction of 7 dwellings (apartments and houses) with associated parking and landscaped amenity space.

The application reads:

"The proposals will maintain the residential use on this site, and are consistent with the use of the properties in the surrounding area. The location of the units maintains the building line along North Parade at a similar scale.

"To ensure the proposals are not overly prevalent along North Parade their ridge heights have been kept below that of the neighbouring consent. Additionally, the ridgelines of the units are perpendicular to the road to reduce the impact of views to the south.

"The proposals look to retain and enhance the character of the surrounding area and to create a development that is fully integrated into its plot."

In the plans, there are two maisonettes and an apartment and three-bed semi-detached houses - with balconies, gardens and all with parking spaces.

Speaking to Nub News about the plans, a nearby resident said it was, "pure financial gain and overdevelopment, with no benefit to local residents or affordable homes for locals."

Commenting on the plans, one resident said:

"There have been two large building projects along North Parade within the last 3-4 years. This application for demolition and a further rebuild will further increase the already high volume of traffic and noise pollution that has been ongoing along this small artery into Falmouth."

Another said:

"We object to this development as it is not in line with surrounding properties in North Parade also most of these homes would end up as holiday homes what we do not need.

"There is a lack of parking in the road already and with this at the moment only being one bungalow and to change to seven homes, there could be two cars per household needing parking space. Also, there is a danger of constant traffic coming in and out of the new homes."

A resident in the adjoining property added:

"We are the owners of the adjoining property to the site and whilst we do not object to the redevelopment of the site we do STRONGLY OBJECT to this application by reason of height, visual impact, siting, overshadowing and loss of light.

"The proposal is extremely overbearing by height and visual impact as it will dwarf our property from the front street scene, side and rear elevations.

"Whilst we are fortunate enough to have off-road parking facilities, we endorse the highway concerns raised by neighbours regarding this development."

The current status of the application is awaiting approval.
