Sean Stratton, a member of the Friends of Princess Pavilion Group has presented the Town Council with a petition signed by 1300 residents in support of the re-opening of Princess Pavilion Gyllyngdune Gardens.

The facility was closed earlier this year by Cornwall Council and remains empty.

Sean is also planning to deliver a copy of the petition to Cornwall Council.

Last week pavilion General Manager Hayley May featured on Source FM discussing the reopening plans with Simon Neild.

Town Clerk Mark Williams said:

"The Town Council gardeners are currently on-site undertaking grounds maintenance works.

"The Town Council have requested if, whilst the future of the theatre and restaurant is being resolved, the gardens could be re-opened to the public and managed by the Town Council.

"The Town Council could be in a position to manage that public use now, subject to permission and confirmation of some matters from Cornwall Council which I hope will be granted shortly."

The venue is an important local community asset to Falmouth and it is hoped that the Town Council can secure its long term future which if agreed the Council would then work on a business plan with the Friends of Princess Pavilion group.

Falmouth Mayor Steve Eva added:

"I had an informative meeting with Sean and we both want the same thing and wish to see the gardens and facilities opened up as soon as possible. The Town Council fully recognise that the Princess Pavilions are Falmouth's jewel in the Crown."
