Westgarth's Sherborne Reaction
Words provided by Matt Friday - Falmouth Town
Boss Andrew Westgarth said his Falmouth Town side got what they deserved after they fell to a 2-1 defeat at Sherborne Town on Saturday.
Louis Jagger Cane scored his first goal in Town colours but it was merely a consolation after first-half goals from Aaron White and Ben Hughes proved to be enough for the Zebras.
The home side opened the scoring in the 21st minute at Raleigh Grove when White won the ball in the Town box and took it past one man before firing it past debutant Piran Jones in the Falmouth goal.
Sherborne then doubled their advantage six minutes before the break when the ball was laid off on the edge of the box to the onrushing Hughes, who arrowed it into the top corner from 20 yards.
Town halved the deficit seven minutes from time when Tom Annear's low cross from the left flank found Jagger Cane whose first-time effort flew into the top corner from 18 yards, but an equaliser proved elusive for the visitors who fell to only a second defeat in their last eight league outings.
"I think we got what we deserved," Westgarth said after the game. "You could call it after the Lord Mayor's show maybe with such a positive Easter and that massive win against Bridgwater away, to be the polar opposite on Saturday against Sherborne was disappointing.
"But it probably highlights why we're eighth, we're eighth for a reason and probably because we haven't been consistent enough away from home. Take nothing away from Sherborne, credit where it's due, but we were so far off it and it felt so flat and it was a really disappointing result for us."
A positive note was a first goal on Town colours for Jagger Cane, who found the net in the 82nd minute with a fine finish into the top corner, and Westgarth was happy for his recent addition to get off the mark.
"I'm pleased for him," he said. "I felt for him really because he was probably a frustrated figure for most of the game because for whatever reason our attacking game wasn't quite there and he didn't have too many opportunities, but the one he did have he took well."
