Falmouth Town manager Andrew Westgarth felt like two points were dropped as his side let a two-goal lead slip in their 2-2 draw at home to bottom side Keynsham Town on Saturday.

Jack Webber's fine finish midway through the first half put the hosts in front after the first 45 minutes of their Western League Premier Division encounter before Jack Bray-Evans doubled the lead fewer than 20 seconds into the second period.

Owen Brain gave the Ks a lifeline midway through the half when he fired in from outside the box, and the same man – who also saw red for the visitors late on – snatched a point for the Somerset outfit 13 minutes from time, slotting in from close range after his first effort was saved.

The draw brings Town's three-game winning run to an end and means they remain 14th in the Western League table. Keynsham stay bottom but only goal difference separates them and Torpoint Athletic.

"It's so frustrating, it almost feels like a loss really, from being in a good position at 2-0 up we just threw it away," Westgarth said after the game. "It's probably been the story of our season that we haven't been sharp enough in either box. 

"We had more than enough chances to win that game of football today. We had countless corners, JBE's missed a big chance so it's really frustrating, and the manner in which we conceded the goals was really disappointing. 

"Over the two games we've played against Keynsham I can't believe we've only got two points out of them, and the amount of chances we've had over both games is frightening."

He continued: "You look at big moments, and I'm not digging Jack out but they've just scored to make it 2-1, we go up the other end and have got a great opportunity to make it 3-1 and you'd probably say then that's a big ask for them to come back into it. 

"Given the strength of this league, while it's 2-1 they've got a chance, and the frustrating thing as well was once they got back to 2-2 they probably had a golden chance to win it 3-2. There's definitely areas we need to work on for sure."

The result spelled the end for Town's winning run, which ran to three games – or four if the recent voided 3-0 win at Bitton is counted – in all competitions.

But Town are still enjoying a good run of recent form despite Saturday's result, with the Bickland Park outfit losing just one of their last nine games in all competitions.

Having said that, there will be understandable disappointment at being unable to defeat the side ranked bottom of the Western League Premier Division, especially given the Ks had lost their six previous matches before Saturday.

It also means Town have dropped four points against the Somerset side this season, having drawn 1-1 in the reverse fixture at the AJN Stadium last month in another game.

"That's the frustrating thing because as well as we've been doing in the cups, we want to put together a run in the league, and days like today we'll look back on and think we've got to be winning games like today, especially at home where we're really strong," Westgarth said.

"And you've got to say fair play to them. They're bottom of the league and they've come down here and given it a go and come away with a point, so you've got to say fair play to them. But again it's another one they're probably thinking how have we come out of this with a point.

"This is why this league is so great. When you do get your wins you are elated because they mean a lot and they're hard to get. The glimmer of light is that we didn't lose, we got a point and that unbeaten run continued, but I think we're all disappointed, it definitely feels like a loss."
