Falmouth RFC suffered a 34-24 cup defeat to local rivals Truro RFC on Saturday.

The last time the two teams met was at the end of last season when a last-minute kick relegated Truro from the Western Counties West.

Falmouth started the brighter and had their first points through Nick Carne, stepping in off the left wing to score under the posts. Kieran Rodda adding extras.

A converted try from the Truro back row and a penalty put The Goats in front. Truro 10 Falmouth 7.

Falmouth then went in front. Carne again stepping in off the left-wing, darting through a few players to run over. Matt Horton added the extras to make the score 10-14.

Truro went into half time with a 21-14 lead after a try off the back of a scrum and poor discipline gave The Goats two penalties.

The Eagles found themselves further behind after a reverse kick from a breakdown 10 metres out allowed the Truro full-back to score a well-worked try in the right corner.

At 34-17 Falmouth looked like they might mount a late comeback after mauling over when play was pulled back, but The Eagles were out of time.

Truro go through to the next round.

Falmouth meanwhile return to league action next week as they welcome St Austell to the rec.
