Following multiple dangerous incidents at Maenporth Beach yesterday, the Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team has called for stronger caution at Falmouth's beaches.
Due to forecasted strong easterly winds over the weekend and coming week, dangerous conditions are expected around the water and on Falmouth's beaches.
The coastguard has given advice for residents thinking of going to the beach this weekend:
- Check the tides and weather forecast. If you do have to travel, check the tides and weather of where you're going to, not where you are.
- Ideally don't enter the water, but if you must. Know your limits. Have a backup plan. Don't go alone.
- There are NO lifeguards on duty on our beaches at the moment.
- If you do fall in. Remember - FLOAT to live:
- Fight your instinct to thrash around
- Lean back, extend your arms and legs
- If you need to, gently move your arms and legs to help you float
- Float until you can control your breathing
- Only then, call for help or swim to safety
If you spot someone in danger or are in danger yourself. Call ï¸999 and ask for the COASTGUARD #knowwhotocall - Any delay from calling the wrong service can make all the difference.
