Falmouth Nub News aims to support our community, promoting shops, businesses, charities, clubs sports groups, and more.
We have been profiling some of these businesses and organisations regularly in a feature called 'Up Close in Falmouth'.
This week we spoke to Tobin and Tina Webb (landlady), behind family run pub The Grapes, Church Street.
[H3] Tell me a bit more about your beer garden, The Vineyard? [.H2]
It has come together really nicely, we have been doing it for a little while now but I think people are really appreciating it.
It seems very good timing, the reason why we worked with INDIdog and the council to get this space was to be covid safe. A lot of people prefer to be outside, it just makes everything safer.
[H3] How long did it take to turn it into this? [.H2]
We are an independent family business and like many businesses, the past year has been a hammer blow so our entire approach has been DIY.
It has taken a while to get there but it has been a labour of love, and now it is really coming into its own.
[H3] The Grapes also screened the football outside during the euros on a giant screen, which must have created a superb atmosphere? [.H2]
The football was a perfect example of what this space is for, we are working through these different stages of lockdown, we know that people want to go out and socialise but how can we help them to do it safely?
The demand for space in pubs for the football is nothing like we have seen before, it is our 10th year here and we have been through world cups, so we were thinking how we could make it fun, safe, and valuable for the town. We were really pleased with it, it has worked out well.
[H3] The Grapes has moved into one of its busiest times of the year, the summer, and school holidays, what do the next few months look like for the business? [.H2]
We are in a full service now, refreshers to the menu for the summer, seafood and summer salads.
Post Falmouth Week we are looking at having some acoustic music from local artists, I know people have been crying out for something like that.
There are some exciting things happening during Falmouth Week, you will be able to see The Red Arrows from here, and events going on in Church Street car park just across from us.
In general, come down and grab a bite to eat by the harbour, enjoy the views with a nice atmosphere.
