A 'bounce back' plan of trade measures for the agriculture, food and drink industry has been announced this week to help support businesses that have been impacted by coronavirus.

The Government has announced a package of measures designed to turbocharge UK food and drink as the world recovers from coronavirus.

The plan will provide unprecedented help for SMEs and allow them to capitalise on trade agreements being negotiated by the Department of International Trade with Japan, US, Australia and New Zealand.

The new strategic interventions will offer immediate support to help businesses in the industry grow their trade activity overseas.

Truro and Falmouth Member of Parliament Cherilyn Mackrory said:

"The measures introduced this week will support producers, manufacturers and agri-tech companies across the food supply chain, from farm to fork, and have been developed with insight from businesses and government."

"The agriculture, food and drink industry is the UK's largest manufacturing industry and plays a vital role in the UK's food supply chain."

"It is vital that food producers, manufacturers and agri-tech companies in Truro and Falmouth, who have been significantly impacted by Coronavirus, are given every opportunity to succeed."

"They have already done amazingly in adapting to continue working through the pandemic and these measures will support them in the future as we come out of lockdown, through Brexit and beyond."

Minister for Export, Graham Stuart MP said:

"More trade is absolutely critical to helping the UK's agriculture, food and drink industry recover from the impact of coronavirus."

"The package of measures we have announced today will support 'bounce back' in exports, and help our world-class producers and manufacturers increase trade with the rest of the world.

It will also get the industry ready to capitalise on the opportunities that are being opened up by the series of free trade agreements that my department is negotiating around the world."
