Anna and Martin Cavanagh of The Trelowarren Arms receive their award.

Anna and Martin Cavanagh, of The Trelowarren Arms, Budock Water, are celebrating after being named winners at independent pub company Punch Pubs & Co regional 'Publican of the Year' awards.

Held in recognition of the best-performing Publicans from its 1,300 strong pub estate, the couple beat a host of rival pubs in the area to be put forward as one of the finalists in the 'Publican of the Year' for the South region. They then were subjects of a tough judging process, which included mystery visits through January and February to evaluate how well the business performs and delivers fantastic guest experiences.

Anna and Martin who have been at the pub for just over 5 years were recognised for their atmospheric and community-driven pub which has gone from strength to strength. Not only do they offer their guests a fine array of events, but they also make use of the pub for large amounts of charity and community work, including a weekly post office hub service and as a venue for local crafting and book clubs.

They've also built up a following for their great food and Sunday lunch delivery service, with exceptional standards and passion for the pub that is clear to see.

The results were announced at a glittering event held at fellow Punch Pub The Plough, Prestbury on Wednesday, March 23rd. On reflection of their award win, Anna said:

"We were delighted to win. We love our pub and the people in it and just try hard to make it the type of local that we'd want to go to. It's been a tough couple of years, but we've got a great team, and with their support and that of our loyal customers we've survived and are looking forward to the future."

They will now go on to represent Punch at The Great British Pub Awards, an industry-wide awards ceremony that seeks to recognise the very best pubs across the UK. This event is held in September where Anna and Martin will compete against the five other regional winners all vying to be named Punch Pubs & Co Publican of the Year.

Lucy Barker, Operations Director at Punch Pubs, added:

"Anna and Martin are an absolute joy to work with, they have turned the Trelowarren into a am amazing hub for their community and always evolving their business to ensure its success. Congratulations, we can't wait to see what you do next."
