The RMT (Rail, Maritime, and Transport) union has announced strike action that will affect rail services this bank holiday weekend and in early September.

Strike days are set to take place on Saturday 26 August, and Saturday 2 September. Aslef, the trade union for train drivers, has also announced strike action for Friday 1 September.

Saturday will see a reduced service across most of the country, but smaller rail lines like Falmouth will have no services at all.

It is not yet clear how many services will be affected on the other dates.

For customers that have already purchased tickets for these days, the GWR is allowing the tickets to be valid over a period of days:

  • Tickets for Saturday 26 August can be used the day before or up to and including Tuesday 29 August
  • Tickets for Friday 1 September can be used the day before or up to and including Tuesday 5 September
  • Tickets for Saturday 2 September can be used on Thursday 31 August the day before or up to and including Tuesday 5 September

There is also the possibility of claiming a refund on an Unused ticket.

As always it is recommended to check online for any changes to rail services before travelling.
