The Greenbank Hotel, Falmouth, has moved ahead with its plans to become the first plastic-free hotel in Cornwall.

The hotel has teamed up with local potter Natalie Bonney and Cornish beauty brand Living Sea Therapy to create new refillable ceramic bottles in the rooms to prevent throwing away tens of thousands of plastic toiletry bottles every year.

Managing Director Ben Young said:

"At The Greenbank, we believe we have an obligation to seek out the most sustainable business practices to support our climate, the local economy and our Cornish community.

"We also believe that deeds speak louder than words. With levels of business at an all-time high, we have found that the amount of little plastic toiletry bottles that we were getting through was increasingly unbearable."

The hope is that the hotel will lead the way in pioneering a plastic-free future for the hospitality industry in Cornwall.

Penryn potter Natalie Bonney is the brains behind the plastic-free plans. She said:

"As we all know we must take more responsibility for what we use on a daily basis. The less plastic that's used in the first place, the less we have to worry about it polluting our environment, especially here in beautiful Cornwall."

"Making soap pumps has certainly been one of the most challenging projects I have ever undertaken. The precision involved to make them all fit a screw-threaded pump top and a wall bracket whilst being functional and visually attractive was a challenge.

"I wanted to make something that ticks all the boxes. I have definitely learnt some new skills! Thankfully the hotel team are lovely and very patient."
